Have added a fresh page (see navigation bar above)- Charge inspiration - with a few scans of the original plates from that mighty tome that got so many of us into the hobby.
Links and Styles
One evening each week (normally a thursday) when my schedule allows, I do like a good surf... and it's not only "classic" wargaming sites I dip into.
So, in addition, I have added a host of links (right hand side, scroll right down), separated into categories: "Old School"; "Middle School/ Gilder-esque", and "All Mod Cons".
I'm fascinated by the design decisions people make when pursuing their wargaming projects and the styles adopted in building a collection. That's style in terms of figure style, terrain style, painting style, basing style.
This part of my own collection covered by this blog is of course in the old school category. And others have followed a slightly later tradition, influenced by Peter Gilder. And then there are those people whose wargaming is simply about doing things with the materials and methodology available right up to the minute. There's no "right way", no "wrong way", and I'm sure the categories could be torn down, subdivided, or undergo all manner of disection. But, I hope you find it a useful guide.
By the way, if I have in any way "mis-categorised" a blog, it is not deliberate. And if your blog doesn't appear there, let me know and I'll add more in.
Meantime, best wishes...

Humbled and honoured to be included, just must get on with my long Peter Gilder inspired Sudan figures.
hi there, wouldn't normally do this but I want my Blog "labelled" please. Your nostalgia is clearly not mine; however what I think mine is may not be how you see it, right? Gilder is what got me going as a kid and frankly still does now, BUT our toys and rules and scenery might be otherwise in your view. I followed you musings and the Stollen blog, bought the books and tried to be into it, finally I realised this was not my nostalgia, I was already playing it - living the dream: yes we have arrived!
Really love what you do for the hobby and especially the process which I find so precious and such fun too. Be good and keep it coming, maybe catch up someday for a "reflection"?
Cheers

Good Grief - labelling us? A lot of what I've written in the past has been on the theme of wargaming allows you to be your own man, picking what you want and discarding what you don't. Yes, my rules are mainly old school inspired, but my figures and terrain are not. While "Charge" etc were part of my wargaming "education" we didn't have much else then and everything was pretty simple. So while it is my nostalgia too I do love to think we've improved on it since....which is why my blog is called "not just old school". But if I have to be categorised then I suppose to be in Phil's "old schoolers" is nearly as good as being a Chelsea pensioner and getting my Maundy money from the Queen!A great honour.
Good to have you back Phil. Don't leave it so long next time.
Phil,
I would very much like to be labelled under Retro-wargaming as I'm using new, state of the art techniques and materials to create that so called old school or classic effect.
No...for me it's clear what you mean with Gilder-esque etc... Hope to see more of your own work soon.

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I knew such "categorisation" could lead to some virtual frowning, but it's not such a bad thing for those who are surfing around and want a guideline.
Have added links to your excelent blog Pyotr(an oversight on my part in the first place), and Jeremy (hadn't seen yours before - great stuff).
